Code of Conduct

Institutional code of conduct for students, teachers, office/support staff, parents, and the Principal.

Section 1

For Students

Students are the lifeline and first stakeholders of any educational institution. Their all-round development is of top most priority of the college, and in this respect the college has laid guidelines for them.

Academic Rectitude

Students are expected to actively engage in the learning process and must inculcate the habit of acquiring at least 75% attendance in all the courses they are pursuing. Students should enter their lecture classes on time.

Students are supposed to complete their assignments, tests, projects and any other work related to academics in stipulated time, and must strictly refrain from indulging in plagiarism or any academic mischief.

Students should develop a healthy attitude with their teachers and discuss subject-related problems with the concerned teacher during office hours. Students must register for exams and other courses as announced on the website and pay the stipulated fee on time. In case of any financial hurdle, they should report the matter to higher authorities and can avail relaxation, concession, or a scholarship as the case may be.

Classroom Behaviour

Students should compulsorily wear their identity cards whenever they are in the classroom and college premises. Loss of an I-Card should be reported immediately to the HOD and the librarian with an application.

Students are expected to give a patient and proper hearing to their teacher in class, and should respect and have high regard for their teachers. Students should not engage in any quarrel with fellow classmates, or draw and write anything on classroom walls, chairs, tables, or desks.

While in the classroom, students are expected to switch off their mobile phones.

Behaviour Outside the Classroom

Order and discipline are cardinal virtues of every educational institution. Students are not supposed to loiter in the campus when free.

Smoking, chewing tobacco in any form (pan masala, gutka, etc.) and drinking is strictly prohibited within the college campus. Students should not indulge in hooliganism or rowdyism — any such activity is a serious offence with the student liable to be suspended or rusticated.

Students are encouraged to inculcate values such as honesty, compassion, integrity and truthfulness. Students are expected to maintain cleanliness in the campus and must not litter; consumption of junk food is strictly prohibited within the campus.

Students should ensure no damage is done to college property — this is a punishable offence. Use of internet, computers, laptops and tablets within the campus must be strictly restricted to academic purpose only. Theft or abuse of institute equipment, unauthorised entry, use or tamper of classrooms, computers, and networks is a punishable offence.

Presence of every student is mandatory in the induction meeting chaired by the Principal or convened by the department at the commencement of an academic session. Students are not supposed to bring expensive camera mobile phones to college; the loss of the same will solely be the responsibility of the student.

Use of Library

While availing the library facility, students are expected to adhere to strict discipline without causing any inconvenience to fellow students. Any loss or damage of a book or magazine is liable to be punished by fine; theft of any magazine, book, or periodical from the library can lead to suspension.

Students will get books or periodicals only on showing the identity card. Library timings and issuing details will be displayed on the notice board from time to time. A written application to the librarian is required for any specific book/periodical request. Pin drop silence is required while sitting in the library.

Ragging is Strictly Punishable

Anti-Ragging Guidelines issued by the UGC are enforced, and students are made to compulsorily sign the declaration form at the beginning of the session.

Any act of mental or physical torture to a fellow student in any form is a punishable offence, with the student liable to be suspended from the college.

Instructions Pertaining to Examinations

Students resorting to unfair means during examinations will be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Govt. of Maharashtra Act No. XXXI of 1982 and the Maharashtra University Act, 1994. In case of copying, the student is liable to punitive action as per University rules — a fine of ₹500, six months of suspension, or both, as per the University statute, with the gravity of the case and punishment decided by the University.

If a student is found guilty, the provisional admission/examination form stands automatically cancelled and paid fees will not be refunded. While appearing for examinations, it is strictly prohibited to bring a mobile phone or any other expensive gadget or valuables into the classroom; the loss of any will be solely the student's responsibility.

Section 2

For Teachers

Teachers are the guiding lights of society. Their knowledge, expertise and character have a marked influence on the upbringing of students, and along with the students, teachers also bring laurels and glory to the institution.

Professional Ethics

Teachers are supposed to be mentors and guides to their pupils, and must inculcate the necessary virtues which make students better human beings. Teachers should adhere to a responsible pattern of conduct, and should display fairness and justice when dealing with pupils, setting aside differences of caste, gender, creed and religion.

Teachers are expected to perform their duties with utmost dedication — taking lectures and practicals on time. A teacher should be present near their class 5 minutes before the commencement of the lecture, devote the entire 50 minutes to the class, and not exit the classroom early.

Teachers are also expected to speak respectfully of fellow colleagues and render assistance for professional betterment.

Teachers are not supposed to indulge in any malpractice such as tampering of records, stealing of journals or books, or threatening or misguiding students. Such practices are a punishable offence. Teachers are also detested from engaging in private tuitions or promoting a favourite student, which smacks of partiality or bias.

Teachers should take special notice of weak students and devote extra time to enhance their learning ability, make use of ICT tools for effective teaching, and ensure strict discipline while on examination duty. Teachers are expected to adhere to existing rules and regulations and respect guidelines issued by the college management.

Academic Enrichment and Enhancement

Teachers are encouraged to undertake activities that could enhance their promotion and growth, such as conducting seminars, organising workshops and conferences, and engaging in healthy discussion with students and management.

Teachers must enrol as members of professional organisations and academic bodies for continued enhancement of knowledge and outlook, and should recognise differences in abilities and aptitude among students, dealing and helping accordingly.

Estimation / Appraisal

Teachers are expected to submit their academic performance/appraisal report in the prescribed form at the end of each academic session, attend and organise seminars, workshops and conferences, and publish books or have articles/papers published in high quality, peer-reviewed journals.

Apart from academics, teachers should also conduct extra-curricular and co-curricular activities to bring out the best potential of students.

Responsibility Towards Students

A teacher shall first and foremost treat all students on the principle of equality without reflecting any partiality or biasedness, and should inculcate moral values such as honesty, compassion and integrity.

A teacher should help students solve academic problems and can act as a facilitator for personal problems if shared. A teacher should strictly refrain from anti-academic activities such as writing question-and-answer guides, leaking examination papers, or allowing students to indulge in copying or cheating during examinations.

Responsibility Towards the Society

A teacher should bear in mind that education is a public service, and should strive to keep society informed of educational programs carried out by the institution.

A teacher should be a role model for society, aware of social problems, and participate in activities conducive to the progress of society, refraining from any activity that tends to promote hatred or enmity among communities.

A teacher should be flexible in approach, encouraging new trends in the field of education and making experiments to keep the teaching-learning process effective, in view of new trends in modern society.

Section 3

For Office / Support Staff

The support or office staff acts as an important link overseeing documentation connected with administration and examination-related activities, and their contribution is second to none in maintaining the college as a premier institution.

Discipline

The support/office staff should acquaint themselves with college policies and adhere to them, and should come well dressed in the uniform assigned. Duties officially assigned should be strictly regulated, without undertaking any other job within working hours.

The support/office staff should not indulge in any political or anti-secular activities that could hamper the smooth functioning of the college, or any disrespectful behaviour with teachers and students. Punctuality and discipline is expected of them, as with teachers and students.

Administrative and Accounts Staff

The staff should ensure that the service book of all teachers is kept updated and properly maintained, and should assist teachers in college work if the need arises, as per the directions of the Principal.

The Accounts department should prepare, examine and analyse accounting and other financial records from time to time, and should ensure documents related to various committees are systematically arranged, showing no discrepancy.

Lab Attendant

The Lab Attendant should help the lab assistant carry out lab-related activities.

Section 4

For Parents

The College believes in fostering a healthy relationship between teachers and parents. Parents are the first teachers and important stakeholders in the upbringing of their children.

Partnership With the College

In keeping with this belief, the college organises regular teacher-student-parent interactions so that problems, if any, or any misdemeanour on the part of a student, can be brought to the notice of the parents. This is a healthy and corrective mechanism for preventing further erosion in the growth of the student, and remedial action can be taken.

Parents are requested to take proper care of their wards at home, and if problems persist can always take counsel from the College Principal and teachers. These efforts necessarily aim at building a healthier and ideal society.

Section 5

For the Principal

The Principal is the pivot. All major decisions regarding academics, extracurricular activities and administrative policies fall within their purview; the Principal should be transparent, fair, just, honest, kind and objective in all approaches.

Academic Monitoring

The Principal is supposed to contribute to the academic growth of the institution, and is expected to participate in teaching, research and training programs of the college.

The Principal shall be assisted by the Heads of Departments, other faculty members, and the Chief Examination Officer (CEO), to ensure the conduct of examinations is smooth, without hindrance, and should constitute an admission committee to oversee that the admission process is carried out smoothly.

The Principal should keenly observe academic activities such as conferences, seminars, cultural and literary fests, and workshops, obtaining feedback and ensuring all necessary requirements are in place. The Principal acts as a channel between the management and college staff, cultivating a healthy relationship with staff and management, and should be a role model to students.

General Administration

The Principal is expected to adhere to observance of the Act, Statutes, Ordinance, Regulation, Rules and Orders issued by the university authorities from time to time, and is supposed to properly maintain the self-assessment reports of teachers and their service books.

The Principal shall make proposals for appointment to all posts of cadres, including contract, part-time, and daily wage employees, and possesses the right to grant medical, casual, earned, or duty leave to college staff members, subject to the rules enshrined for the same.

Financial Administration

The Principal should constitute a Finance Committee to assist in matters related to finance, and shall forward the monthly salary bills of all staff members to the management on time.

The Principal shall have the final say in purchase of essential material related to classrooms, labs, library and stationery, subject to the limit of powers delegated and prescribed procedures and budget provisions. The Principal possesses the last right to sanction any scholarship for a student as the condition arises, and shall execute all orders made on behalf of the college subject to approval and sanction of the management.
